Korean Mt. Jiri Joongjak Red Tea {Review}

Bring me the water!

This is the third tea from Teas Unique. I’ve a matcha and some matcha infused white chocolate left to try! I opted to bust out my new favorite gaiwan that I got earlier this week and small tasting cup. I have a new love for this method of tea brewing. It’s fun and for me a better way to make tea.

I set the kettle for the suggested 195 degrees and went about setting up my tools and taking a sniff of the tea. I have to say this one was unique for sure. The dry leaf smelled I guess earthy? Now the directions say to steep it for two minutes…well I learned that lesson the hard way. So this time around I did a 20 second rinse and then a 20 second steep on the tea.

Once I’d poured my first steep the tea took on an oaky and baked scent. Which reminded me of days spent at my grandparents house. The smell reminded me a lot of the smells from their home: pipe tobacco and freshly polished furniture. Which sounds gross, but it didn’t taste like it. The taste had a bite to it, but I couldn’t distinguish the actual flavor of the tea. This was a little disappointing to me. Because I had high hopes for it. But you may think differently of this one. Don’t let this review stop you from trying it yourself.

Follow that car*

I spent this morning at at Sherlockian brunch and presentation event and as luck would have it one of my friends I haven’t seen in a year was in attendance. Actually I believe we met almost a year to the day! So naturally we ended up making an afternoon of it. Which of course meant a trip for tea to the Whistling Kettle in Troy. Please note this also ended in us getting horribly lost between Albany and Troy (it’s possible when you spend more time talking and less watching the road signs)!

But we made it to our destination and we were shown to a booth right away. With our orders placed we got down to the very real business of catching up. After all it had been a year since we last saw one another face to face. Yes there have been tweets and the like, but nothing beats face to face communication! The only thing I can tell you we did talk about where of course my little Sprout and of course Sherlock Holmes, but there was more, but that’s between us.

I will say it was long overdue and as always a very real treat to get together and chat. Many thanks my friend for a lovely afternoon and lift home.

Today’s the day, the house is as clean as it’s going to get, and my best friend arrives tonight. I was trying to think of dinner options upon her later evening arrival when I hit upon Chinese food. Why yes, I did have it last week. But this is a special occasion THE BEST FRIEND IS IN TOWN. Mind you my husband will pout and say “I thought I was your best friend” and he is. But a girl’s gotta have her gal best friend too. And back to the Chinese food it’s quick and delicious and is in fact open ’till 2, thought I think she’ll arrive before then!

So you might be wondering what we’ll get up to while she’s in town? Trouble of the Sherlockian variety for sure! But there will also be TEA! All the tea. We will be drinking the Capital Region DRY. Not really, but we’ll do our part to make it so. I’ll be taking her to my favorite spot for lunch, The Whistling Kettle (Troy location) for their take on afternoon tea. I’m sure we’ll want to shop while we’re there too. They have quite the selection.

I suppose we’ll also happily wander around downtown Troy either before or after eats. It’s a charming town. Not as interesting as where she took me while I visited, but it’s something to see. But mostly we’ll be catching up since last we saw one another when I visited in November. Of course we’ll also be talking and watching all manner of Sherlock Holmes. Because THAT”S WHAT WE DO! In short it promises to be an awesome weekend and I cannot wait to get it started.

Maybe I should get a nap in now?
