My winnings.
[image of a tea towel, umbrella infuser, tea and mug in a basket]

Only I would go to a Sherlock Holmes symposium and win tea. Yep that’s right…I threw in a handful (or less) of raffle tickets and won. I was pretty excited to dig into the tea for sure. Color me a little disappointed when I realized it was bagged tea and not loose leaf. But such is life right?

The nicer thing is I won a mug. Why you ask? Because I’m not allowed to buy more mugs…ever. So the only way I can get them is as gifts or winning them. Muahahaha! The game, as Sherlock would say, is on! Seriously, please send me mugs of the geeky variety. Please and thank you!

As for the tea, I’ve had it maybe twice now and it’s ok…but it’s also been super hot so I haven’t really been enjoying my teas. I’ll give it another run through when it cools off later this week. More posts coming soon as I just received a huge sample from Lochan Tea and a tea buddy sent me a LOT of puerh!

A giveaway from @galinthegreyhat and me! #drinkmilitia

Here’s the deal folks…my personal blog Gal In The Grey Hat is holding a giveaway! Which means this here tea blog is ALSO having a giveaway. Meaning I’m throwing in some tea things for a prize. I should have called it an Inception giveaway…if you get it you get it, if you don’t you don’t.

Now how to enter!

If you already like the Gal In the Grey Hat’s facebook page you are entered! (WooHoo) But if you want another entry….sign up for the newsletter (there’s an image of an envelope a little way down on the left of this page) – which will only be sent out four times a year. No spamming your inbox weekly or even monthly!

If you want an even better chance of winning? Go on and give the tea blog page a like. If you already like it, well thank you and yes you get an extra entry for that too! So that would give you a total of THREE entries into the giveaway!

The prize(s)? I’m still working on those, but I can tell you there will be 3 prizes and they will include: local to me items (tea, soaps, geeky things, etc) for 2nd and 3rd place winners, as well as a gift card to Etsy for $25 for the big winner! So get to entering and share this if you like. Good luck!

Mother’s new helper! #drinkmilitia

Today’s tea purchase was years in the making. Close to four years to be exact, but today was finally the day. I have finally acquired a Breville One Touch Tea Maker! These suckers are pretty pricey, which is why I had to wait for my share of the tax return money (why I never thought of this before I will never know). But my mother-in-law was good enough to bring me to our local mall so I could pick one up.

The only downside to picking it up was I had to go to Teavana to do it. I am not a fan, but that is a post for another time. Now the upside was I spent well over $100 so I got $30 off my purchase…thanks for paying the tax Teavana!

Cleaning process.

Cleaning process.

Naturally, I started unpacking the new baby as soon as I was brought back home. I had a sudden urge to drink some tea. I can’t imagine why! I followed the simple set-up/cleaning instructions and before I knew it I was almost ready to brew my first pot of tea.

While I waited I posted a few pictures to Facebook and the rest of the process. One of the funniest comments (to the picture above was “You can’t post porn on Facebook”. I won’t lie to you I chuckled at this. I would also be lying if I told you I didn’t stop watching this machine work it’s magic…I totally did like the tea nerd I am.

First tea in the brand new baby!

First tea in the brand new baby!

It was then time break the new baby in and brew the first pot of tea. This had to be the most difficult choice I have ever made when it comes to tea. I went with a straight black tea (no name yet as a review will come later). Again I watched the whole process only taking a moment to post the picture to social media.

I was in love watching the basket work and raise once the steep time had been reached. The chimes telling me my tea was ready damn near brought me to tears. The first sip was heaven, I do not know how I got through life without this kettle. I know you might be waiting for the full on review of this new gem, but that will come once I learn all about it and use every function. There’s so much this thing can do and I’m only just scratched the surface. So keep an eye out for that!

Do you have the one touch? If so what about it do you love? What do you hate? (I’ve already been warned if the jug breaks…you need to buy a new one)

Time for another cup!

Tea delivery #DrinkMilitia

Our overnight trip was awesome and sadly I did not have any tea while I was away. Coffee was very much in order come Sunday morning after the beer/distillery tour. Sorry tea, sometimes mother needs her coffee.

Saturday's delivery!

Saturday’s delivery!

Happily I did come home to find my order from Upton Tea Imports had arrived!  In this order: Bond Street English Breakfast, Chocolate Earl Grey, Pu-erh Tuo Cha, Java BOP, and my personal favorite for Sherlockian reasons – Baker Street Afternoon (not shown). I have plans for all of these teas and some have to do with some story telling/reviewing here on the blog. Can you guess which teas might feature? Let me know in the comments. Of course I will be reviewing all of them, but some will be straight up reviews and the others I’ll have a little more fun with. Stay tuned for that.

Thursday's delivery!

Thursday’s delivery!

Thursday I received my very first order from Whispering Pines Tea Co. It will not be my last, I can tell you that much at this point. The order included: Golden Snail, Ailaoshan Black Tea, Imperial Gold Bud Dian Hong (sample), and Clari Tea. I have had a little of the Golden Snail and Clari Tea teas, but not enough to write a good review of.  What I can tell you is I will be needing more of each as they are pretty tasty! Yes, I have plans to review these too. Some in the story telling/reviewing way and other as a straight up review. Right now I’m sipping on Kensington Breakfast Blend (yup I know it’s nowhere near breakfast time) by Upton Tea Imports and it is also pretty tasty. It isn’t often I buy tea that I don’t like and when I do…I don’t buy it again. What are some of your favorite places to shop for tea? Tell me in the comments.

Welcome to IllBeMother221b Talks Tea

Welcome!

As I mentioned in the about section of this blog I really wanted to get back to tea blogging again and here I am.  Here you will find all my tea and tea ware reviews from not only tea and tea products I own, but also those I am sent for review as well as some general tea talk!  There may down the line even be a podcast of some sort (if I can figure out the best way to make that happen)

As I am a Sherlockian there will be some talk of the great detective here and there and perhaps some of my other favorite fandoms (as it relates to tea).  Plus added bonus I drink A LOT fandom blend teas!  I also plan to bring back ‘Taking Tea With ____’.  This was a mix of tea review and ficlet in which I take tea with literary and tv characters.  So I hope you come back for that.

Come on in….kettle’s just boiled.
